I made a commitment to take get involved in a charity event at least twice a during the 2008 year. I have been blessed and I try to find ways to give back through the talents that have been given to me.
I became involved with Laura’s Home which is part of The City Mission in the spring as a sponser of Spring into Life, and was deeply moved by my involvement in the event. I have since choosen to make it an anual commitment for Photos by Q.
Laura’s Home is a shelter for homeless women and their children, serving as a bridge to the local church and community by providing safety, security and stability. During fiscal year Oct. 1, 2006 – Sept. 30, 2007, Laura’s Home provided 52,837 meals and 32,248 nights of shelter to 657 women and 389 children in crisis. Laura’s Home also helped 100 women and 82 children as they worked through our 6-9 month long-term program.
During the event, Spring into Life attendees heard from many of the women who were helped through their interaction with Laura’s Home.
WIth the economy becoming tighter over the last year, demands for this type of assistance are going to rise; and I hope that everyone can find a small way to offer assistance in a charity of thier choice. If you are interested in partnering with Laura’s home, you can find more information here on how to become involved in this year’s event on April 4th 2009. There are many ways to become involved and I hope you find, as I did, the joy of giving.
