I recently had reason to travel to Chicago last week and had an evening to explore for some personal photography.

I had desired to explore Millennium Park in the downtown area, and I found a wonderful experince to recommend to anyone. Within 1000 yards there was an orchestral concert going on, art, fountians, galleries and restraunts of all types of fare. I had desired to explore Anish Kapoor’s Cloud Gate the last time I was in the city but found the stained glass museum on Navy Peir and was side tracked.

Inspired by liquid mercury, this 110 ton giant has been photographed from all directions, but most of them I have seen were in daylight. I was looking for a different take on this 66 foot long by 33 foot high creation of seemless stainless steel that showcased the skyline of the city and displayed the mirror reflections of this work.

What many people do not display in their photography of this work is the distortion that is formed by the reflections under the work. I watched many people’s equilibrium put to the test when they looked and saw this:

I am looking forward to returning to the city the next time to explore more and share images here with you.
